Searching

Today I searched and could not find
The vigor, vim and vanity
Of youth flown by leaving behind
A thread of dwindling sanity.

I searched again with frantic strides
To stop the swooping fear of loss
That left me small with little pride
My life devoid of gloss.

I searched beyond my greying mane,
Webbed frame of glowing eyes gone dull
Past aching bones and muscles wane
All this, my mind to mull.

For to accept would be my goal
If only untouched I were to find
The sparkle that flares up my soul
For my pain it could well unbind.
